Kindergarten
Kindergarten is a time of wonder and growth as children continue their journey as life-long learners through experience, love and acceptance. The faith development of our children centers around fostering a healthy self-concept and teaching the children to know, love and serve God. They learn prayers and the basic beliefs and traditions of our faith. Individual academic, physical and emotional needs are met through a wealth of activities which both challenge the children and afford them opportunities for success. Reading is taught in small groups so that individual attention is given and needs are met. A classroom aide and parent volunteers assist students.
Children move at their own pace through readiness skills to reading and writing stories. Attention is given to listening and speaking skills and vocabulary development. Math lessons focus on learning basic skills and understanding concepts and relationships of numbers. Social studies, science and health focus on the world around us, both physically and socially. Students learn to respect and care for themselves and others. Social and physical skills are also developed through fine motor exercises and play. Each week students also have lessons in art, music, computer, library, Spanish and physical education.
Traditionally a half day program, a full-day program is offered for the first time in 2008-2009. The afternoon is a program of enrichment and recreation under the supervision of a certified teacher.
